BREAKOUT DESCRIPTION:

It’s important to SelectHealth to be a part of the surrounding communities and support those who live within them. Through various community outreach programs and events, SelectHealth wants to support you and your school throughout the year. In this workshop, you’ll learn about two different programs that can help further your efforts for school health and wellness while supporting your students and staff. These programs provide opportunities for your students, teachers, administration, and families to thrive and to live the healthiest lives possible.

Kendra Muir Has been a registered nurse working in Utah for the last 18 years. Prior to working at the Utah State Board of Education as a School Nursing - Wellness Specialist, Kendra was a nursing director for the Tooele County Health Department overseeing school nurses, Women, Infant, and Children (WIC), and Community Health. Kendra spent seven years as the WIC coordinator and five years as a school nurse. She started her career working for Primary Childrens Medical Center and has worked as a pediatric nurse since. She has her masters degree in Health Leadship and her bachelors degree in Nursing. She is an active member of the Utah School Nurses Association (USNA), National Association of School Nurses (NASN), and the National Association of State School Nurse Consultants (NASSNC). She is on the advisory board for Safe Haven and represents the Utah State Board of Education on the Utah Health Workforce Advisory Council. Kendra enjoys camping, hiking, and spending time with her grandkids, husband, and children.




BettySue Hinkson is a registered nurse and lives in the Salt Lake City metro area. She currently works for the Utah Department of Health as the Utah State School Nurse Consultant. BettySue has a background in medical-surgical nursing, labor and delivery nursing, rehabilitation nursing, and has now been working in school nursing since 2000. She has a master’s degree in nursing informatics and is board certified in nursing informatics. She is also a nationally certified school nurse.In her current role as the State School Nurse Consultant she provides technical assistance and professional development to school nurses and other school staff on health needs of the students in Utah.She is an active member of the American Nursing Association (ANA), Utah Nursing Association (UNA), Utah School Nurse Association (USNA), the National Association of School Nurses (NASN), National Association of State School Nurse Consultants (NASSNC), Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and Sigma.She received the Utah School Nurse Association Mary Ito award in 2010, and was the co-recipient of the Outstanding State School Nurse Achievement Award in 2021 from the National Association of State School Nurse Consultants.
