Teaching Yoga to Kids without Turning Yourself into a Pretzel

BREAKOUT DESCRIPTION:

There are many benefits of sharing the practice of yoga with children.  Yoga can help them become more focused, calm down and simply have fun!  However, teaching yoga to kids is VERY different than teaching yoga to adults.  This breakout will give you some basic skills and ideas to share with your students.

Rebecca Fronberg received her bachelor degree in Health Education from the University of Utah in 1991.  She went on to obtain her national certification as a Health Education Specialist (CHES).  She has worked in public health for the last 29+ years in areas ranging from air quality, communicative disorders, tobacco, HIV/AIDS and physical activity and nutrition.  Rebecca currently works as a Program Manager for the Healthy Environments Active Living (HEAL) program at the Utah Department of Health.  She is passionate about her field and enjoys all aspects of Health Education—especially facilitating groups, building partnerships and collaboration.  Rebecca is married with six children, three girls and three boys, and three grandchildren.  In her spare time, she enjoys teaching and practicing yoga, reading a variety of books, and going on long hikes in the Farmington foothills.  Rebecca is an ERYT-500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher-500 hours of training) and has been teaching yoga since 2006.  She teaches classes at the employee owned fitness center located at the health department, as well as a community class at her church, adult community education through Clearfield High School and at studios in Davis and Weber Counties.  She is passionate about yoga philosophy including physical (Chakra System) and spiritual (Yama and Niyamas) teachings and practices.  She has learned to incorporate Energy Medicine into her teaching and practice. Her passion for yoga has led her to study many teachings including Buddhism and guided visualization which she incorporates into the meditation part of her practice. Yoga’s effect on the brain and prevention and treatment of various health conditions make it the ideal practice for everyone.  Rebecca’s interest in the chakra system led her to seek certification as a Reiki practitioner.  She trained in the Usui method and received her designation as “Reiki Master” in November 2011.  Reiki is a powerful practice of moving and aligning energy fields throughout the body to maximize physical and emotional health.
