The Ultimate Sport: Presented by Utah Wild

BREAKOUT DESCRIPTION:

Come learn the basics of Ultimate Frisbee! Played in more than 80 countries by an estimated 7 million people, Ultimate Frisbee combines the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football. The game is played by two teams with a flying disc on a field, with the objective to score by catching a pass in the opponent’s end zone. Ultimate is governed by Spirit of the Game™, a tradition of sportsmanship that places the responsibility for fair play on the players rather than referees. Through the game, students can practice cooperation and teamwork, learn essential interpersonal skills such as empathy, honesty, and self-regulation, and build logical thinking skills through strategy. During this interactive session, the Utah Wild, the first professional ultimate frisbee team for women and non-binary players in the Mountain West, will be teaching the basics of the game including throwing, catching, and the rules of play, and emphasizing why this sport would be a valuable addition to any physical education curriculum.
